Bridge the Gap in Your Life

Shon Kokoszka BWShon Kokoszka, President of MAPS Business Coaching, had three goals for attendees when he stepped on stage at a recent ONE Thing presentation.

1. Discover any ineffectiveness in three areas of your life – your relationship to yourself, your relationship to your team, your relationship to your work.

2. Understand the source of any of that ineffectiveness.

3. To develop a plan to move away from all ineffectiveness.

“Today you’ll discover gaps exist in your world,” he said. “Be honest and authentic! Get real and get right! You’re going to get the most out of today by telling the truth.”

Rather than speak at the crowd – as many keynotes do – Shon continued to run an interactive ONE Thing experience by guiding nearly 500 small business owners through a series of self-rating sequences. He asked people to think about their personal lives – their relationship with themselves – and to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best. He then partnered people with their neighbors and instructed partner A to ask partner B for their rating and have a discussion around the why behind it. After a few minutes, roles reversed and more self-discovery was had. Shon walked through eight more key areas, including physical health, finance, your big why, moving from E to P, productivity, customer service and leadership within your organization.

“Consciously people think that they choose their success,” he said. “But, people do not decide their future; they decide their habits.”

His aim in all this was to move people from step 1 and 2 to step 3. “Logic makes us think; emotion makes us take action,” explained Shone. Rating yourself fulfilled step 1 by highlighting which areas of your life and business you’re scoring low in right now. Talking about the sources of your low and high points with someone will help you identify where the holes in your life may be stemming from – step 2. Now it’s time to take action.

“Focus on the plan, not the problem,” Shon explained. “When you develop a plan and focus on that, it pulls you to a future mind space, which is always beneficial.” To get to that solution – action plan – ask yourself the Focusing Question for each area you need to improve on. Set a goal for these categories and create a plan – 66-Day Challenge, build a GPS, find a mentor, etc.

“Remember,” Shon closed, “when the why is big enough, the how simply shows up.”
